Justice Department Launches Initiative to Combat Violent Crime in Memphis
New strategy involves a surge of resources, data-driven enforcement, and a focus on crime prevention and reintegration.
- The Justice Department, in partnership with multiple law enforcement agencies, has launched a new initiative to combat violent crime in Memphis, focusing on gangs and other violent groups.
- The initiative will deploy federal prosecutors from the Violent Crime and Racketeering Section, as well as dedicated investigative agents, analysts, and forensic experts from the ATF, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and MPD.
- The strategy will involve data-driven, targeted enforcement against the most dangerous criminals and organized groups, coupled with a strong focus on crime prevention, intervention, and reentry.
- The initiative will also work with the Western District of Tennessee’s Reentry Court Program and community organizations to assist offenders in reentering and reintegrating into their communities.
- Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri and U.S. Attorney Kevin G. Ritz met with community members to hear directly about the violence and gang activity in their neighborhoods.
