Jury to Deliver Verdict Tuesday in Case Against Judge Julieta Makintach Over Maradona Trial Documentary

Accusers seek removal over alleged misuse of state resources for a documentary that derailed the Maradona trial.

Overview

  • The decision will be read at 10:00 in the Annex of the Buenos Aires provincial Senate in La Plata, concluding the disciplinary proceedings.
  • The San Isidro Bar Association and the prosecution pressed for destitution, while the defense asked for acquittal and acceptance of Makintach’s previously tendered resignation.
  • Makintach, currently suspended and facing a parallel criminal case in UFI No. 1 of San Isidro, was also removed from her university teaching post.
  • The judge reiterated that there was no documentary of hers, accused colleagues Maximiliano Savarino and Verónica Di Tomasso of lying, and said the nullification could have been avoided.
  • Footage released in May showed her filmed en route to the San Isidro courts, in her office, and inside the courtroom, and the jury’s options include removal, continuation in office, confirmation of suspension, or another sanction.
