Overview
- The jury watched the first recorded Garda interview from December 20, 2023, in which Riad Bouchaker repeatedly said he did not want to kill and described confusion about what happened.
- In the video Bouchaker referenced illness and pointed to a large scar from prior brain surgery, and an interpreter told jurors he made a stabbing gesture described as three or four thrusts.
- Gardaí cautioned Bouchaker at the start of the interview, a French–Arabic interpreter and his solicitor were present, and the recordings were made on DVD.
- Prosecutors say there were seven interviews in total and told the court they will play further recordings and read memos of others to support evidence already shown such as bloodstained clothing and knife packaging.
- Bouchaker, who has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and related offences over the November 23, 2023 Parnell Square attacks that badly injured several children and a creche worker, faces jurors as the court examines intent, memory and medical history.
