Overview
- Jurors returned the guilty verdict Friday after less than two hours of deliberation following a weeklong trial.
- The incident occurred on Feb. 9, 2020 in an apartment parking lot on South Wells Street during an attempted robbery of Huayi Bian, 36, and Weizhong Xiong, 38, with a 44-year-old woman present.
- Authorities say the woman complied while the men resisted, and Thomas shot both victims in the head, leaving the woman unharmed.
- Police tracked Thomas within minutes using area cameras and bloody footprints, arrested him several blocks away with a gun, and matched shell casings from the scene to that weapon.
- Thomas was on probation and electronic monitoring for prior robbery cases at the time, and he is due in court Dec. 18 for post-trial motions as he faces a potential life sentence.
