Jurisdiction Dispute Stalls Bail Plea of J&K MP Engineer Rashid in Terror-Funding Case

The Delhi High Court has requested the Supreme Court's guidance on jurisdictional issues regarding jailed MP Engineer Rashid's bail plea in a case investigated by the NIA.
Rashid, who has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 under UAPA charges, was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2024 while incarcerated.
The NIA opposes Rashid's interim bail to attend the ongoing Parliament session, arguing that the plea misuses the interim bail provision and citing concerns about potential witness influence.
The High Court has also issued notices to its registrar general to clarify administrative orders on designating NIA courts as MP/MLA courts for such cases.
Rashid's hunger strike in Tihar Jail, now in its fifth day, has drawn attention from his party, which has launched a campaign advocating for his release.
