Jupiter Booster Hits 1.0 ExaFLOPS, Europe’s First Exascale Supercomputer Now No. 4 on Top500

Powered by Nvidia GH200 chips, the machine targets large AI models alongside high‑fidelity scientific simulations.

Overview

  • The November 2025 Top500 lists Jupiter Booster at exactly 1,000.00 petaflops (FP64 Linpack), placing it fourth worldwide.
  • Jülich engineers added modules and optimized the system since June’s 793.40 petaflops result to reach exascale performance.
  • The completed system measures about 63.32 GFLOPS per watt on Green500, ranking near 14 overall yet leading efficiency among the Top10 performance systems.
  • France’s KAIROS leads the Green500 at 73.28 GFLOPS per watt using Nvidia GH200 hardware, despite ranking 422nd on the Top500 by raw performance.
  • Jupiter uses roughly 24,000 Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper chips and is being opened to climate, energy, medical and materials research after a build costing about €500 million, with the former JEDI module now integrated and no longer listed separately.
