JUP Chief Humayun Kabir’s Son Detained Over Alleged Assault on Policeman

Officers opened an investigation based on the PSO’s complaint in Murshidabad, with legal action possible.

Overview

  • Constable Jumma Khan, the personal security officer to MLA Humayun Kabir, filed a complaint alleging Kabir’s son, Golam Nabi Azad (Sohel), assaulted him when he asked for leave.
  • Police said they detained Sohel for questioning, identified him as the principal accused in a preliminary inquiry, and continue to probe the case.
  • India Today reported the alleged incident occurred at Kabir’s ground-floor office in view of members of the public, according to police.
  • Kabir denied the allegation, claiming the PSO entered without permission and attacked him, that his son only pushed the officer out, and that the detention was illegal and politically motivated.
  • Kabir said police cordoned his Shaktipur residence and announced he will gherao the Murshidabad SP’s office on January 1, as the Trinamool Congress stated the party is not involved and called the alleged act a cognisable offence handled by law.
