June Auto Dispatches Fall 7% as Passenger Vehicles Weaken, Two-Wheelers and SUVs Climb

Industry leaders warn that export restrictions on rare earth magnets could force EV production cuts from July.

Overview

  • Overall auto wholesales declined 7% year-on-year in June to 300,226 units.
  • Maruti Suzuki recorded a 13% drop in domestic passenger vehicle dispatches to 118,906 units and Hyundai Motor India’s dispatches fell 12% to 44,024 units.
  • Tata Motors’ domestic sales fell 12% to 65,019 units in June, while Mahindra & Mahindra achieved an 18% gain in utility vehicle dispatches and a 13% rise in tractor volumes.
  • TVS Motor sold 23,472 electric two-wheelers in June to capture a 25% market share and sustain its lead in the e2W segment.
  • TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto have warned that China’s restrictions on rare earth magnet exports could force EV production cuts from July.
