Julian Castro to Lead Latino Community Foundation as CEO
Former HUD Secretary aims to expand the California-based nonprofit's reach to Latino communities nationwide.
- Julian Castro, former Housing and Urban Development secretary, will take over as CEO of the Latino Community Foundation (LCF), a California-based nonprofit focused on expanding Latino economic, civic and political representation.
- Castro aims to consolidate the group’s gains in California but also to expand its reach to Latino communities throughout the country.
- The LCF has invested over $29 million into more than 375 nonprofits that are predominantly led by Latinos across the state, providing branding and fundraising support to grassroots nonprofits, and mobilizing Latino voters.
- The foundation has established a Giving Circle network in which each member of a circle contributes a minimum of $1,000 a year. The LCF has mobilized more than 500 people through this network.
- Castro is taking over for current CEO Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, who raised $100 million during her tenure at LCF.
