Jujuy Poverty Threshold Tops 1.07 Million Pesos as Inflation Lags National Average

Provincial data reveals families now require over 1.07 million pesos to meet basic needs with transport and housing costs pushing prices higher

  • In June a family of two adults and two children in Jujuy needed 1,073,074.86 pesos to stay above the poverty line and 479,350.36 pesos to cover only food needs.
  • Jujuy’s basic food basket rose 0.3% month-on-month and 34.8% year-on-year while its total basic basket increased by 1.1% and 40.1% respectively.
  • Provincial inflation stood at 0.8% in June, below the national 1.6% and NOA’s 1.2%, with transport & communications and housing driving price gains as food costs held steady.
  • An adult equivalent in Jujuy required 155,129.57 pesos for the food basket and 347,273.42 pesos for total needs last month.
  • National figures from INDEC show June’s food basket rose 1.1% and total basket 1.6%, pushing the poverty threshold for a typical family to 1,128,398 pesos and the indigence line to 506,008 pesos.
