Jujuy Court Extends Jurado’s Pretrial Detention After Fifth Aggravated Murder Charge

Two unmatched DNA profiles keep the investigation open, potentially pushing the trial to 2026.

Overview

  • Matías Jurado will remain in custody for four more months at the Gorriti Unit No. 1 as ordered by the Jujuy court.
  • Prosecutors formalized five counts of aggravated homicide, citing cruelty, treachery and pleasure in the charging documents.
  • The confirmed victims are Jorge Omar Anachuri, Sergio Alejandro Sosa, Miguel Ángel Quispe, Juan José Ponce and Juan Carlos González.
  • Prosecutor Guillermo Beller said two “orphan” DNA profiles from Jurado’s home have not matched available samples, and relatives of missing persons will be asked to provide DNA.
  • Jurado has been detained since July 30 and the original preventive measure expired on December 4, with the prosecutor estimating an oral trial could start as early as February or March 2026 if forensic work is completed.
