Judiciary Scraps Private Health Cover and Caps Pay Under OAJ Reforms

The OAJ projects annual savings of 300 million pesos from the changes.

Overview

  • The Pleno del Órgano de Administración Judicial unanimously approved an agreement setting a General Salary Tabulator and changes for the SCJN and TEPJF for September to December 2025 to comply with Article 127.
  • Ministers, magistrates and judges will no longer have private major medical insurance, receiving healthcare instead through the ISSSTE.
  • Net monthly salaries for judges and senior officials were formally adjusted to stay below President Claudia Sheinbaum’s pay, while mid-level and operational salaries remain unchanged.
  • For personnel with a judicial suspension in force, the tabulator will apply with corresponding complements, a carve-out that editorial commentary argues could limit the reform’s reach.
  • The OAJ is relocating operations to Avenida Revolución 1508 with the Oficialía de Partes opening there on Monday, September 8, and Minister President Hugo Aguilar Ortiz estimates the package will save 300 million pesos per year.
