Judicial Workers Stage National Strike Over New Performance Evaluations

Unions say the DOF-published December exams threaten job stability with a demand that the agreement be revoked.

Overview

  • Workers in at least 17 states began a national strike on Friday, closing dozens of federal court offices, blocking access to buildings and interrupting some services and local traffic.
  • The Órgano de Administración Judicial published the evaluation agreement in the Diario Oficial on November 5 and says the first application in December will be diagnostic, tied to training and will not by itself cause dismissals.
  • The evaluation process combines a course, an exam of knowledge and ratings by supervisors and peers with an acceptable score set at 80 and remedial options for lower results, details that unions say leave room for subjective judgments.
  • Unions are demanding the agreement be revoked, that training occur before tests, and that explicit guarantees against removals and dismissals be written into any rule; they warn the strike could extend or become indefinite if authorities do not respond.
  • The dispute affects tens of thousands of PJF staff—unions cite about 44,000 employees—and risks delaying hearings and filings as the calendar now points to diagnostic tests on December 4, 8, 14 and 15 and possible later evaluations with formal consequences.
