Overview

  • Sixteen suspected members of a central Mexico fuel theft cell led by Cirio Sergio Rebollo Mendoza (‘Don Checo’) were arrested during coordinated raids in Mexico City, State of Mexico, Querétaro and Saltillo, Coahuila.
  • The Fiscalía General de la República charged all 16 with organized crime, illicit possession and storage of hydrocarbons, and unlawful extraction of fuel.
  • A federal court imposed preventive custody on the central Mexico defendants and granted a six-month period for the FGR to complete its complementary investigation.
  • In Tamaulipas, authorities seized a vessel carrying roughly 10 million liters of fuel and a control judge linked 11 individuals to process for illicit possession of hydrocarbons.
  • The 11 Tamaulipas suspects were transferred to federal prisons in Oaxaca, Michoacán and Veracruz as courts set a four-month deadline for the FGR to close its inquiry.
