Overview
- Jonatan Nanita made a brief appearance in New Britain to face added counts for tampering with evidence and disposal of a body tied to the death of 11-year-old Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia.
- The judge ordered Nanita’s case moved to the Litchfield Judicial Courthouse in Torrington to consolidate with earlier charges, and his attorney asked that he remain in protective custody.
- Nanita is held on $5 million bond for the initial murder-related charges plus $750,000 for the new counts, while Karla Garcia is held on $5 million and Jackelyn Garcia on $1 million.
- All three defendants are scheduled to return to court on Nov. 14.
- Police say Mimi’s remains were found Oct. 8 in a tote at 80 Clark St. in New Britain, she weighed only 26–27 pounds, and investigators believe she died about a year earlier in Farmington before her body was moved.
