Judge Sets Strict Release Terms After Lowering Bond for Ex–NC Rep. Cecil Brockman

The former lawmaker left office after child sex charges, and county Democrats will nominate a successor on Nov. 15.

Overview

  • Brockman’s bond was reduced to $250,000 from $1.05 million, with a release order outlining house arrest, no social media access, passport surrender, no firearms, electronic monitoring and no contact with the minor.
  • He remains in the Guilford County Jail pending the posting of bond and must live with his mother if released, according to court records.
  • The 41-year-old faces two counts of statutory sex offense with a child and two counts of indecent liberties; prosecutors say he met the 15-year-old on an app, lived with the teen and appears in videos found on the teen’s phone.
  • Prosecutors allege he tracked the teen via an app, called 911 when he could not locate the teen and tried to reach the teen in a hospital, behavior that initially led to a bond denial.
  • He resigned Oct. 31 after a bipartisan House panel was announced to consider expulsion, and Democrats in Guilford County plan to choose a replacement for the governor to appoint; his next court date is set for January 2026.
