Judge Sets $750,000 Bond for Louisville Man Accused of Killing Wife in Valley Station

Police say surveillance footage and a hand wound place him at the home when Ariannas Hernandez Rivera was last known alive.

Overview

  • Eugenio Santoya Sanchez, 60, was arrested Sept. 27 and charged with murder, first-degree strangulation and tampering with physical evidence, according to Louisville Metro Police.
  • In a Monday court appearance, he pleaded not guilty as a judge set a $750,000 cash bond, raised from $50,000, and ordered no contact with the victim's family.
  • An arrest complaint cites video showing Sanchez as the only person stopping at the residence near the time Rivera’s social media account was last active, and he was seen placing something in his vehicle’s trunk before leaving.
  • Investigators reported Rivera suffered a lethal cut to the neck and that a pillow was placed over her head, and they noted Sanchez had a large cut on his hand consistent with a sharp-edged object.
  • Officers found Rivera dead Sept. 14 at a home in the 4100 block of Autumn Way in Valley Station, and neighbors say the killing has left them fearful and staying indoors.
