Judge Paves Way for Baby Elsa’s Adoption in East London Foundling Case

Police have not identified her parents despite extensive DNA work plus CCTV reviews.

Overview

  • East London Family Court ruled Elsa should stay with her current carers, enabling them to apply to adopt her, while her two siblings have already been adopted.
  • The three infants, found in the same part of east London in 2017, 2019 and 2024, have been confirmed as siblings.
  • Newham Council told the court the children will keep in touch through planned play dates and letter exchanges as they grow up.
  • The Metropolitan Police says enquiries are now exhausted after full DNA profiling, hundreds of hours of CCTV review, a £20,000 reward and a search narrowed to about 400 properties, and it continues to appeal for information.
  • Judge Carol Atkinson said Elsa suffered significant physical harm from the way she was left; the newborn was found on January 18, 2024 in a reusable shopping bag near the Greenway in East Ham.
