Judge Orders Preventive Detention in Niterói Police Inspector’s Killing

Investigators are testing seized pistols and phones to assess links to an execution crew, with possible ties to contravenção or the cigarette mafia under review.

Overview

  • Inspector Carlos José Queiroz Viana, 59, was shot dead outside his home in Piratininga on Monday in what investigators describe as a premeditated ambush captured on CCTV.
  • Three suspects were arrested hours later in Xerém: Mayck Junior Pfister Pedro and military police cabos Fábio de Oliveira Ramos (3º BPM) and Felipe Ramos Noronha (15º BPM).
  • Forensic analysis found that two of the three seized pistols (two 9mm and one .40) were fired in the attack, and the weapons were sent for broader ballistic comparison.
  • A white Onix with cloned plates used in the crime was tracked over the Rio–Niterói Bridge, skipped the toll, and was later found burned; the trio was detained nearby fleeing in a stolen Jeep Compass, with phones and license plates recovered.
  • Police are examining the seized devices and plates and pursuing leads on whether the suspects belong to a group that carries out executions, noting the detainees declined to give statements.
