Judge Orders Preventive Detention for Alleged Leader in Illegal Land Sales at Mexico City Conservation Site

Prosecutors are advancing five case files tied to alleged lot sales inside the Bosque de Agua corridor.

Overview

  • Juan N., known as “El Pitufo,” was arrested on August 29 near an alleged operational base in Coyoacán and taken to the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Norte.
  • At the initial hearing, a judge linked him to process for fraud and an environmental offense, imposed preventive imprisonment, and set one month for complementary investigation.
  • The arrest followed an August 14 operation at La Pedrera in San Miguel Topilejo that protected 9.5 hectares, where 2.6 hectares were found irregularly occupied by families reporting illicit lot sales.
  • Victims reported paying nearly 2.3 million pesos and said transactions occurred through offices in Tlaxcaltenco La Mesa, a public-transport base in Xochimilco, and the Media Luna area of Coyoacán.
  • The environmental and urban protection unit of the Mexico City prosecutor’s office has five investigative files open for alleged fraud, dispossession, and invasion in the protected Bosque de Agua area.
