Judge Orders Jail for William Livingston in Loop Attack on Kathleen Miles

The case intensifies scrutiny of prior release and parole decisions in Chicago.

Overview

  • Chicago police and prosecutors say that on Aug. 19, Livingston, 32, punched Miles without warning near the 200 block of West Washington, knocking her unconscious.
  • Miles suffered multiple facial fractures and a concussion and was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
  • Livingston is charged with three counts of aggravated battery and one count of reckless conduct, and Judge Rivanda Doss Beal ordered him held in the county jail.
  • His history includes a 2022 conviction for attacking multiple women in the Loop with a five-year sentence followed by a 2023 release, and a 100-day sentence in 2024 for striking a 15-year-old.
  • The next court date is Sept. 15 at the Skokie Courthouse as Miles and her family question why earlier cases and parole decisions did not prevent the latest attack.
