Judge Orders 6th Suspect Held in Killing of Ex–São Paulo Police Chief

Investigators say PCC involvement is the main line as DNA, fingerprints and seized phones begin to map a coordinated team.

Overview

  • Rafael Marcell Dias Simões, 43, known as Jaguar, had his temporary arrest ordered, with police citing his past kidnapping conviction and alleged PCC ties.
  • Luiz Henrique Santos Batista, nicknamed Fofão, was arrested in São Vicente on suspicion of helping one of the gunmen flee and was taken to the homicide unit in São Paulo.
  • A woman was detained on suspicion of transporting a rifle used in the attack from the coast to Diadema at the direction of the suspects.
  • Forensic work found 41 latent prints in a Praia Grande house tied to the group and additional prints at a second site in Mongaguá, while DNA linked Felipe Avelino da Silva (Mascherano) and Flávio Henrique Ferreira de Souza to getaway vehicles.
  • Several suspects remain at large as police work to determine roles and identify the mastermind, with DHPP also examining whether a PCC figure known as Azul or Colorido had involvement.
