Judge Nears Decision on BGE's 40-Mile Transmission Plan to Replace Brandon Shores

Her ruling will determine whether the project to import power from Pennsylvania advances to full Public Service Commission review.

Overview

  • An administrative judge said she plans to conclude hearings this week and then has 60 days to issue a decision on the permit request.
  • The Harford County Council passed a resolution urging BGE to minimize impacts, resolve land-rights disputes, and compensate affected property owners.
  • Residents and the No More Power Lines group oppose additional lines, citing EMF, wildfire, and property-value concerns and arguing a 1931 deed allowed only one line.
  • BGE disputes that interpretation of the easements, says the work would stay within existing corridors, and estimates a Brandon Shores-related charge would fall from about $6 to about $4 per month once the project is in service.
  • If approved, BGE projects completing the Brandon Shores Retirement Mitigation transmission upgrades by the end of 2028.
