Judge Links Three to Guadalajara-Based Wildlife Trafficking Ring After Major Seizures

The case enters a one‑month investigative phase under a MexicoU.S. task force following an order of pretrial detention.

  • Coordinated raids in Zapopan, San Pedro Tlaquepaque and Tijuana seized 1,569 kg of sea cucumber, 1,188 kg of shark fin, 39 kg of totoaba swim bladder, 2,227 turtles and 12 casquito turtles.
  • Prosecutors estimate the illegal market value of the confiscated wildlife at about 133.9 million pesos.
  • Authorities say the network used a Guadalajara company to export totoaba, sea cucumber, shark fin, abalone, turtles and seahorses to buyers in the United States, China and other Asian countries.
  • The detainees, reported as Yaoqin “S,” Miguel “A” and Marco “C,” were linked to process on organized‑crime charges for biodiversity offenses and remain in preventive detention.
  • The operation was led by FGR and FEMDO with SEMAR, SSPC and PROFEPA, in coordination with agencies of the U.S. government.
