Overview

• On Aug. 18, Judge Edmundo Perusquía Cabañas at the Centro de Justicia Penal Federal in Reclusorio Norte sentenced Antonio Sánchez Cisneros “El Dedotes” and Israel Jiménez Ávila “El Yeyé” to 11 years and one month for attempted homicide and criminal association.
• The sentence includes a 36,000-peso fine for aggravated attempted criminal association following abbreviated plea procedures.
• These convictions bring the total number of individuals sentenced in the December 2022 attack on Ciro Gómez Leyva to 11, with others still awaiting trial or sentencing.
• Two participants testified in April that Nemesio “El Mencho,” leader of the CJNG, ordered the assassination attempt, statements now part of the FGR’s investigative file.
• Alleged ringleader Armando Escárcega Valdez “El Patrón” remains linked to two federal processes on attempted homicide and association charges.
