Judge Denies Release for Naperville Man Accused in Fentanyl-By-Mail Trafficking Case

The case began when postal inspectors flagged a parcel at Chicago’s processing center addressed to Ahmad Dinah.

Overview

  • Authorities say U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigators intercepted the package on Nov. 3 at a Chicago facility after it was sent from Anaheim, California.
  • Following a controlled delivery on Nov. 5, officers observed Ahmad Dinah retrieve the parcel and later found about 1,000 fentanyl tablets in his apartment, separated and air-sealed in plastic.
  • Prosecutors charged Dinah, 30, with controlled substance trafficking and unlawful possession with intent to deliver, both Class X felonies, as well as a Class 4 possession count.
  • A DuPage County judge granted the state’s request to hold Dinah without pretrial release, and he remains in custody with a court date set for Nov. 21.
  • Officials emphasized the public-safety risk posed by the seizure, with the state’s attorney saying the alleged quantity was enough to kill entire cities.
