Overview

  • Eric Neuman, 52, is charged with two counts of aggravated arson, arson, and criminal damage to property after a Saturday house fire in the 700 block of Hemlock Lane.
  • Authorities allege he placed about six containers totaling roughly 40 gallons of gasoline in the home and put two propane tanks in a rental car in the attached garage.
  • Prosecutors say he spilled gasoline in the garage, lit a flare, and threw it inside before leaving, causing an explosion that severely damaged neighboring homes.
  • No injuries were reported, and prosecutors say he set the fire knowing neighbors, including children, were at home.
  • Illinois State Police arrested Neuman around 10:35 a.m. in Mahomet after a pursuit that began near Bloomington/Morton; his next court date is Sept. 22.
