Judge Denies Pretrial Release for DuPage Man Charged in Killing Son’s Emotional Support Dog

Prosecutors point to a necropsy and bloodstained household evidence that they say show a violent death from blunt-force trauma.

Overview

  • Sandeep Dhillon, 47, of Bloomingdale, is charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class 4 felony, in the death of his son’s registered emotional support dog, Ace.
  • The alleged killing occurred Aug. 17, 2025, at a home on the 1900 block of Grosse Point Court in Hanover Park, where police later found the dog dead under a blanket with his head on a pillow.
  • Judge Joshua Dieden granted prosecutors’ motion to deny pretrial release, and Dhillon is being held without bond following his Jan. 12 arrest.
  • Investigators reported blood and dog fur in multiple areas of the home and recovered a wooden table leg with hair and staining, as well as a bloodied pillowcase on the patio.
  • A University of Illinois Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory necropsy found extensive hemorrhaging in the face and neck consistent with blunt-force trauma, concluding the blood loss was sufficient to cause death; Dhillon is due back in court Feb. 9.
