Jubillar Trial Opens Monday in Albi in No-Body Murder Case

Jurors will weigh a month of circumstantial evidence with disputed testimonies under exceptional media scrutiny.

Overview

  • Proceedings begin 22 September at the Tarn assizes in Albi, scheduled for up to four weeks with daily 9 a.m. starts, limited public seating and a second room for retransmission, and roughly 300 journalists accredited.
  • The 27-volume dossier contains no body or confession and rests on a bundle of clues, including broken glasses, cries reported that night and contested phone data.
  • Cédric Jubillar, incarcerated since June 2021, pleads innocence and faces life imprisonment for the alleged killing of his wife Delphine in December 2020.
  • The court lists 65 witnesses and 11 experts; President Hélène Ratinaud will preside, with avocats généraux Pierre Aurignac and Nicolas Ruff representing the prosecution.
  • Defense attorneys Alexandre Martin and Emmanuelle Franck denounce an investigation they call à charge and have summoned the former Toulouse prosecutor to be heard about earlier public statements.
