JSW and JFE Steel Pledge ₹5,845 Crore to Boost Electrical Steel Capacity to 350,000 Tonnes

Upgrading Nashik to 250,000 tonnes per annum alongside a scaled-up Vijayanagar facility closes India’s gap in transformer-grade steel supply.

Overview

  • A ₹4,300 crore investment will lift Nashik’s capacity from 50,000 to 250,000 tonnes per annum in a fivefold increase.
  • An additional ₹1,545 crore will expand the Vijayanagar plant’s target capacity to 100,000 tonnes per annum from its original 62,000-tonne plan.
  • Combined GOES output across both sites will total 350,000 tonnes per annum, vastly exceeding last year’s domestic production of 50,000 tonnes.
  • Commissioning of the enhanced facilities is scheduled in stages starting in fiscal year 2028.
  • The expansion is designed to reduce reliance on GOES imports and secure materials for energy-efficient transformers and large motors supporting India’s clean-energy goals.
