Overview

  • On August 7 at Ageo Station, a 15-car Takasaki Line train opened its doors on the side opposite the platform after the conductor pressed the wrong button.
  • The conductor attributed the mistake to a momentary bout of drowsiness that delayed recognition of the station approach.
  • Approximately 2,000 passengers were onboard at the time, and no injuries occurred as the train remained stationary for an eight-minute safety check.
  • JR East’s Takasaki Branch has initiated a detailed internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the door-operation error.
  • In addition to reporting the incident to the Kanto Transport Bureau, JR East will roll out company-wide retraining aimed at strengthening fatigue management and door-operation protocols.
