Overview

  • On May 28, Klinghoffer pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in an Alhambra courthouse.
  • Los Angeles County Judge Rosa Fregoso gave him one year of informal probation, 60 days of community labor and a required driver safety course, with restitution to be determined later.
  • Investigators say the March 18, 2024 collision occurred when Klinghoffer failed to yield during a left turn and struck 47-year-old Israel Sanchez in a marked crosswalk.
  • Sanchez’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in July 2024 alleging Klinghoffer was using his cellphone and made no braking motion before the impact.
  • At the hearing, Sanchez’s daughter delivered an emotional victim impact statement calling her father’s death an “avoidable loss that has shaken my family.”
