Josh Brolin Declines Role of Hal Jordan in HBO's Green Lantern Series

Despite efforts by James Gunn and Warner Bros., both Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey have turned down the leading role in the upcoming Lanterns series.

Josh Brolin was offered the role of Hal Jordan but decided to pass on the opportunity by the end of August.
Matthew McConaughey also declined the role, leaving the casting for Hal Jordan still open.
Lanterns will be an eight-episode series on HBO, described as a gritty crime procedural involving Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King are leading the creative team behind the series.
James Gunn's DC Universe reboot aims to launch with Superman in 2025, followed by Lanterns and other projects.
