José Medina Mora Is Unity Candidate to Lead Mexico’s CCE

The business council now moves to a December Assembly to formalize the leadership change.

Overview

  • CCE said the candidacy window closed Nov. 6–11 with only José Medina Mora registered, formally presenting him as the unity candidate for the presidency.
  • Reports indicate the Consejo Mexicano de Negocios backed Medina Mora and that Juan Cortina stepped aside, clearing the way for a single nominee.
  • Per CCE statutes, the National Council will be briefed Nov. 14, proposals will be presented Nov. 14–Dec. 5, and the Assembly will formalize the election in the second week of December.
  • Coverage notes support from six voting groups—CMN, ABM, AMIS, Coparmex, CNA and Concamin—while Concanaco’s participation and stance remain unsettled.
  • Medina Mora, a former Coparmex leader known for past clashes with AMLO, is set to shape private-sector engagement on the upcoming T-MEC review and labor policy debates.
