Jorge Chávez Airport to Start US$12.67 International Transit Fee on Oct. 27

Talks with Peru’s transport ministry could cancel the planned domestic transfer charge.

Overview

  • Lima Airport Partners will charge international connecting passengers up to US$12.67 including IGV, collected at airport counters and via an online platform.
  • Airlines have not agreed to include the fee in ticket prices, and LAP warns of potential confusion due to limited passenger communication by carriers.
  • The domestic-to-domestic transfer fee is slated for January 1, 2026, but LAP is negotiating with the MTC to reduce it to zero, with proposals involving the State foregoing part of its 46.5% revenue share.
  • The new charge stems from Addendum No. 6 to the 2013 concession, with the current 100% discount for international-to-international connections ending on October 26.
  • Industry groups including ALTA and IATA caution the added cost could erode Lima’s hub competitiveness, while LAP estimates about US$22 million in annual revenue from the international fee and roughly US$5 million if the domestic fee proceeds.
