Overview

  • An extraordinary plenary on October 29 invested Insausti with 13 votes from the PNV and PSE as the opposition cast blank ballots.
  • Outgoing mayor Eneko Goia, who resigned earlier in October, handed Insausti the ceremonial makila during the session.
  • Two councillors, Idoia Gracia (PNV) and Tomás Pascua (PP), were sworn in to replace Goia and Jorge Mota before the investiture vote.
  • Insausti, 36, formerly the councillor for Culture, Euskera and Tourism and his party’s spokesperson, outlined priorities of housing, public safety and quality employment, introducing a ‘5K’ method.
  • He named Olatz Iartza as first deputy to lead mobility and tourism, and he is set to govern until municipal elections expected in mid‑2027, with recent polling showing a close PNVEH Bildu contest.
