Joliet Man Charged After 8-Year-Old Shoots 5-Year-Old With His Gun

It comes after the children’s babysitter was indicted last week for delaying a 911 call following the shooting.

  • Amin A. Hudson, 38, was arrested Thursday and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in connection with the May 16 incident on Dover Street.
  • Denise A. Hudson, 62, was indicted June 21 on an endangering-the-life-of-a-child charge for waiting more than 90 minutes to summon help.
  • Police say an eight-year-old retrieved the handgun from a bedroom and accidentally shot his five-year-old relative in the arm.
  • The injured child underwent several surgeries at Comer Children’s Hospital and is now recovering in stable condition.
  • Investigators noted Hudson’s prior felony conviction for a controlled substances offense and are asking anyone with information to contact the Joliet Police Department or Will County Crime Stoppers.
