Joint Operation in Cancún Arrests Alleged CJNG Plaza Boss Linked to ‘Operativa Jaguar’

Prosecutors opened an investigation into narcotics and firearms offenses after the coordinated capture and seizure of cash, drugs, a handgun and phones.

Overview

  • Security units from Quintana Roo’s investigative group, the Navy and the Army detained Emilio Alejandro “N” on December 5 in Cancún’s Benito Juárez municipality.
  • Authorities identify him as a presumed CJNG plaza leader tied to the Deltas: Operativa Jaguar cell that sought to expand control across northern Quintana Roo municipalities including Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres.
  • Officers seized a Glock 9mm pistol with a magazine and 12 rounds, roughly 300,000 pesos in cash, four phones and a backpack holding packaged marijuana, cocaine and crystal-like fragments.
  • The arrest followed an urban surveillance stop in which a vehicle was secured, with officials later transferring the suspect and evidence to the state’s specialized anti-narcotics prosecutor.
  • Weeks before the capture, investigators confiscated weapons and tactical gear bearing Deltas markings, and officials now describe the detention as a significant blow to the group’s local structure.
