Joint Forces Seize M16 and Machine Guns in Major Arms Haul in Manipur’s Kangpokpi

Officials describe the raids as an intelligence-led push to recover looted weapons across conflict-hit districts.

Overview

  • In the Maohing–Changoubung jungle of Kangpokpi, troops recovered a US-made M16 rifle with a magazine and 10 rounds alongside a looted .303 rifle, two CMGs, three pistols, a .22 rifle, bolt-action and single-barrel rifles, improvised projectile launchers, grenades and radio sets.
  • Police detailed additional items from the Kangpokpi cache including a 7.62 mm LMG barrel, a grenade or lathode launcher, Baofeng radios and bulletproof jackets, underscoring the mix of imported and locally fabricated weapons.
  • In a separate sweep near Kotzim village, forces seized a 9 mm carbine with a magazine, a single-barrel rifle, three pull-mechanism rifles, three improvised mortars and two hand grenades.
  • Searches in Khongnangpokpi, Imphal West, yielded one pumpi gun, a country-made rifle, a hand grenade and a radio handset with a charger, officials said.
  • A man identified as V Shiva, also known as Ishwar Pandey, was arrested in Moreh on allegations of extortion, smuggling and supplying arms, while multiple militants linked to KYKL, KCP and PREPAK were detained in separate actions.
