Schriffen, the Second Black Television Play-by-Play Announcer in MLB, Aims to Connect Fans with Players' Stories
- John Schriffen, 39, has been named as the new television play-by-play broadcaster for the Chicago White Sox, replacing Jason Benetti who became the voice of the Detroit Tigers.
- Schriffen, who is biracial, becomes the second Black television play-by-play announcer in MLB, joining Seattle’s Dave Sims.
- Schriffen has a diverse broadcasting background, having called Major League Baseball, NCAA basketball, football, softball and baseball games, the NBA G-League and Summer League for ESPN.
- He also has experience as a studio host and anchor for the NFL Network, and as a play-by-play broadcaster and sideline reporter for CBS Sports.
- Schriffen's approach to broadcasting is to be true to himself, aiming to connect fans with the players and their stories without making himself the focus of the game.
