John Alford Jailed for Eight-and-a-Half Years Over Sexual Offences Against Two Teenagers

Prosecutors said he exploited intoxicated teenagers during a 2022 sleepover after supplying alcohol.

Overview

  • Recorder Caroline Overton ordered Alford to serve up to two thirds of his sentence in custody before release on licence.
  • A jury convicted the former London’s Burning actor, tried as John Shannon, of six offences against girls aged 14 and 15 at a Hoddesdon sleepover on April 9, 2022.
  • Prosecutors said he spent about £250 on food, alcohol and cigarettes, supplied vodka to the girls, then had sex with the 14-year-old and sexually touched the 15-year-old.
  • The court imposed a restraining order, a sexual harm prevention order and lifetime sex offender notification requirements.
  • Alford denied the crimes and claimed a set-up, while victim statements described severe, lasting trauma, including self-harm and a suicide attempt.
