Joe Root has withdrawn from the 2024 Indian Premier League, following his England teammate Ben Stokes.
Root played three matches for Rajasthan Royals in his IPL debut this year, but batted only once.
Root's decision was respected by the Royals' director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, who praised his positive impact on the franchise and the players.
Root, who recently signed a three-year central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board, is set to be a key player in England's five-Test tour of India starting on 25 January.
ECB managing director of men's cricket, Rob Key, said Root needed a 'break' after playing every game of the recent World Cup in India.
