Joby Completes 3,199‑Mile Autonomous Coast‑to‑Coast Test Flight

Company says the remotely supervised demonstration shows its autonomy can handle taxi, takeoff, navigation and landings though regulators and funding must be resolved before commercial service.

Joby said on Thursday that a converted Cessna Caravan flew 3,199 miles from Concord, California, to Dare County Regional Airport in North Carolina without any control inputs from the onboard safety pilot.
The aircraft handled taxiing, takeoffs, route navigation and landings under remote supervision from Joby’s California site and from Shaw Air Force Base at distances up to 2,323 miles while a safety pilot was present but did not touch the controls.
Joby acquired the autonomy stack from Xwing in 2024 and says the system has since logged more than 400 flights and over 800 automated hours, including tests in three major U.S. military exercises.
Markets initially pushed JOBY shares higher on the announcement but the stock closed down about 2% for the day and is roughly 54% lower year to date, a reaction compounded by CEO JoeBen Bevirt’s sale of more than 606,000 shares under a Rule 10b5‑1 plan adopted March 5, 2026.
The Caravan began a planned westbound return tour with multiple stops and Joby frames the demo as proof of concept for cargo, medical and disaster missions even as certification, liability rules and large capital needs remain the key hurdles to routine commercial use.
