Joby Begins Power-On Tests of FAA-Conforming Air Taxi in Final Certification Phase

The step begins the FAA’s TIA data collection used to decide whether the eVTOL earns a type certificate.

Overview

  • Joby reported that power-on and subsystem integration checks are underway on its first aircraft built to FAA-approved designs and processes.
  • Company pilots are expected to start for-credit flight testing later in 2025, with FAA pilots scheduled to run their own evaluations in 2026.
  • Each TIA aircraft conforms to the intended type design, with components approved by FAA Designated Engineering Representatives and inspected by FAA Designated Airworthiness Representatives.
  • TIA activities will validate performance metrics, handling in vertical, cruise and hover flight, and operational elements such as maintenance procedures and pilot training materials.
  • Joby said it will provide additional updates during its third-quarter 2025 earnings webcast on Wednesday.
