• On October 4, the National Board of Justice ruled there is no merit to open a disciplinary case against Juan Antonio Fernández Jerí, head of the Public Prosecutor’s National Control Authority, and ordered the file definitively archived.
• The JNJ resolution also declined proceedings against several ANC-MP and Public Ministry officials, stating the questioned actions fell within their functional competencies.
• The case before the JNJ stemmed from a July 4, 2023 administrative complaint by senior prosecutor Rafael Vela Barba, who alleged arbitrary disciplinary actions against him.
• On October 3, the Justice Ministry said the Attorney General’s Office had archived complaints involving Minister Juan Manuel Cavero and that there is no active criminal investigation tied to those events.
• The ministry added that 2018 license-issuance issues at the Transport Ministry were attributed by a technical commission to IT system failures, with no disciplinary process or sanctions recorded against Cavero.
