JMM Exits Bihar Race as RJD–Congress Field Rivals, Exposing INDIA Bloc Rifts

With nominations shut, only the Oct. 23 withdrawal window remains to avert opposition vote splits that could benefit the NDA.

Overview

  • RJD unveiled 143 candidates and Congress confirmed 61, leaving both parties facing each other in at least six constituencies, including Vaishali, Lalganj, Kahalgaon, Sultanganj and Narkatiaganj.
  • Jharkhand Mukti Morcha announced it will not contest in Bihar after earlier signalling a solo bid on six seats, accusing RJD and Congress of sidelining it during seat talks and saying it will review ties in Jharkhand.
  • NDA figures seized on the discord, with LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan dismissing so‑called ‘friendly fights’ and asserting the opposition has handed them walkovers in some seats.
  • Some adjustments began as the clock ticks to Oct. 23: Congress pulled a nominee in Lalganj, RJD refrained from challenging Congress state chief Rajesh Kumar Ram in Kutumba, and a VIP candidate quit in Tarapur and backed the BJP.
  • Alliances now pivot to campaign mode with polling on Nov. 6 and 11 and results on Nov. 14, as analysts warn intra‑bloc contests could split anti‑NDA votes in several constituencies.
