JLR Switches On 18MW Gaydon Solar Farm in First Phase of UK On-Site Renewables Plan

The programme targets lower emissions and steadier energy costs as JLR moves toward sourcing about one-third of its global energy from self-generated renewables by 2030.

Overview

  • Located on 26 hectares at Gaydon, the new array is sized to supply roughly 31% of the headquarters’ electricity demand.
  • The Wolverhampton Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre is set to complete a rooftop installation of more than 18,000 panels in the coming months, expected to generate about 9,500 MWh a year and meet around 40% of that site’s needs.
  • More than 10 MW of solar carports are scheduled to start installation at JLR’s Merseyside site in 2026, with canopies and solar walkways designed to support EV charging.
  • JLR frames the on-site and near-site projects as a way to reduce reliance on volatile energy markets while advancing its net zero commitments.
  • Biodiversity measures at Gaydon include wildflower planting between panels and hedgerow restoration with bird-friendly species, according to the company.
