JKPSC Says JKAS Prelims Will Proceed Sunday as LG and CM Clash Over Age Relaxation

The standoff over a one-time age relaxation remains unresolved after the lieutenant governor returned the file with a feasibility query.

Overview

  • JKPSC chair Arun Kumar Choudhary confirmed the Combined Competitive Examination will be held on December 7 as per the published datesheet, and admit cards have been issued.
  • Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked the commission to postpone the test, citing widespread airline disruptions and uncertainty over pending approval for age relaxation.
  • The lieutenant governor’s office said it received the age-relaxation proposal on December 2 and returned it the same day seeking clarity on logistical feasibility, adding that no reply arrived in the following days.
  • Leaders from PDP, People’s Conference, NC and CPI(M) pressed both sides to resolve the matter, as aspirant protests and anxiety grew across Srinagar and Jammu.
  • The administration had already announced on November 10 a partial increase in upper age limits, while a broader one-time relaxation remains under consideration with officials noting legal and logistical constraints on late changes.
