J&K to Allot 5-Marla Plots to Flood-Hit Homeless, Says CM

The pledge follows a request for a comprehensive relief package from the Centre.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced land allotments for families rendered homeless or landless by flash floods and landslides to help them rebuild homes.
  • He conducted an aerial survey of hard-hit areas in Kathua, including Hiranagar and Lakhanpur, and met residents of Duggain village whose houses were damaged.
  • He directed the district administration to deliver timely relief, ordered extensive tours of affected areas, and sought detailed ground reports to speed up assessments.
  • He cited widespread destruction, including damage to more than 350 bridges, roughly 2,000 km of roads, and thousands of hectares of farmland, along with losses to public and private buildings.
  • Relief efforts include an Indian Army 26 Rashtriya Rifles medical camp that treated over 100 patients in Doda, while a local MLA reported nearly 100 families in Bani villages losing land and property completely.
