Overview

  • Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on June 14 that 16 tourist destinations will reopen in a phased manner after detailed security reviews by divisional commissioners and inspectors general of police.
  • The first phase covers eight Kashmir Valley sites such as Betaab Valley, Verinag and Badamwari Park and eight Jammu region spots including Sarthal, Devi Pindi and Jai Valley.
  • Tourists have already begun visiting Pahalgam and other reopened locations while Vande Bharat train bookings are fully reserved for the next 10–12 days.
  • Security forces including J&K Police, the army and central armed police units are enforcing a convoy travel plan and enhanced deployments for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra starting July 3.
  • Officials view the reopening as a vital step to revive tourism-dependent jobs and local businesses that suffered after the April 22 terror attack.
